Make your home in a sprawling pixel-art world: farm crops, raise animals, gather resources, and level up skills alongside thousands of other players. Pixels runs...
After four years of pixelated adventures and block-tastic battles, Studio Z5 has decided to pull the plug on their blockchain MMORPG, Pixel Heroes Adventure.
After four years of pixelated adventures and block-tastic battles, Studio Z5 has decided to pull the plug on their blockchain MMORPG, Pixel Heroes Adventure. The studio, which was founded in South Korea back in 2020, laid off its entire team as part of a shutdown that leaves players in the lurch.

Remember when Pixel Heroes Adventure, formerly known as Meta Toy City, was all the rage? It was supposed to be the next big thing in blockchain gaming — a pixel art MMORPG with play-to-earn mechanics and dual-token economics that promised riches beyond imagination. But now it’s just another casualty of the crypto winter.
For those who joined after the hype cycle, here’s a crash course: Pixel Heroes Adventure was all about exploring an open-world, battling bosses, and raiding colosseums to earn in-game resources like Diamonds or tokens such as $ADVTR and MGOLD. The game even had its own NFTs, with collectible characters known as Primal HeroZ.

Back when Pixel Heroes Adventure was new, it offered a unique twist on the hack-and-slash genre, promising blockchain-native ownership and an engaging mix of RPG elements. The community rallied around its promise to bring something fresh to the play-to-earn space, with players getting excited about the idea of earning real money just by playing their favorite game.
The game was built on two blockchains: Ronin Network and Immutable zkEVM, which aimed to provide better performance and security. However, the road wasn’t smooth sailing. Players faced issues with connectivity, bugs, and aggressive monetization strategies that soured some of their experiences.

Fast forward to April 2026, and the news hit like a meteorite: Pixel Heroes Adventure was shutting down. Nexus Interactive had acquired Studio Z5 in September 2025 but couldn’t save this particular star from its fiery end.
The shutdown announcement left many players scrambling for answers. What happens to their hard-earned tokens? Will they get refunds? The studio promised a separate announcement on server closures and refund details, but that’s little comfort now.

While Pixel Heroes Adventure may be no more, it leaves behind a legacy of lessons learned. The game managed to stay ‘live’ for years with an active community of players who loved its pixel art charm and addictive gameplay mechanics. But as the crypto landscape shifted gears, so too did the fate of many blockchain games.
So here’s to Pixel Heroes Adventure: A bold experiment in blockchain gaming that gave it all a shot but ultimately couldn’t weather the storm. May your next adventure be one that doesn’t end in a shutdown.
