Top Stories
Anichess Season 10: Ascension and the First Masters League
Anichess, the onchain chess-with-spells game built on Base, introduced a league structure: an eight-player standing roster with seat retention. Season 10: Ascension launched with 300,000 CHECK in total prizes, featuring the Masters League, an eight-player round robin of best-of-five matches carrying a 100,000 CHECK prize pool. The top four players retain their seats into the next season while four new players earn spots through open Seasonal Playoffs, with the inaugural roster drawn from the Road to Magnus Cup and recent playoff results.
The season added weekly events like Relic Rush and a final ratings reset before scores carry over between seasons. On the infrastructure side, the M8 token migrated to Base with all balances divided by 100, and any account landing below 5 M8 was topped up to 5, a shrink the team designed to make in-game shop purchases, such as a knight priced at 40,000 M8, more manageable. A parallel streaming competition put eight Twitch streamers head to head across four Sundays with 200,000 CHECK in prizes, while the first free-to-enter Playoff Qualifier offered 2,000 CHECK to the top 30 finishers who earn Playoff Points toward 64 seasonal playoff seats. The Masters League’s inaugural eight-player bracket and the streaming season’s Super Grand Final, set for October 25, frame the next stretch of competitive play.
Axie Classic Season 16: The Final Sky Mavis Season
Season 16 is the last competitive season for Axie Classic under Sky Mavis, and the September schedule ran the full arc of a closing chapter. The S16 Offseason went live with Quests and Tower Mode, feeding into a Season Championship on September 19 and 20 that pitted the Top 16 Arena Leaderboard finishers against each other in a 10-axie pool format with 3 bans for a 3,000 bAXS prize pool. The season culminated in the Champions Invitational, an eight-player tournament that went live on September 27 with a 5,000 bAXS prize pool.
The field was split evenly across the four most recent seasons: Anzooo and Mitsuya from Season 16, Eshaz and JL from Season 15, Pau and Nerraw from Season 14, and Chan and Mark from Season 13, each qualifying through their respective Season Championships and Arena Leaderboards. Once this Invitational concludes, Axie Classic transitions to community governance via the new CORC committee, subject to the legal handoff closing. The eight seats at the Invitational table mark the final Sky Mavis-sanctioned competitive bracket before community control takes over.
Axie Vibeathon Closes
A solo developer used AI-assisted tools to build a real-time strategy game with base building, fog of war, and 1v1 multiplayer in a matter of weeks, with Axies serving as Commanders. That title is one of the entries in the Axie Vibeathon, a global contest that launched on September 1 with a 20,000 bAXS prize pool and challenged builders to create playable games using AI tools.
Submissions closed after two weeks of building, and Axie reported an overwhelming number of entries, prompting a one-week extension of the judging period that pushes the Top 8 finalist announcement to October 6. Successful Round 1 games will go live on the Axie Games Hub.
YGG Play Sunset and Abstract Chain Token Removal
YGG is unwinding its Abstract Chain presence following the sunset of YGG Play. The guild announced the removal of the YGG/ETH liquidity pair on Abstract Chain, effective October 9, and advised holders to swap or bridge their tokens via the Abstract Native Bridge before that date. YGG on Ethereum and other networks is unaffected by the change.
What to watch
The coming weeks hold five dated events. Illuvium’s Challengers Series #1 Finals are set for October 4 at 7 PM UTC, concluding the Top 8 bracket. The Axie Vibeathon Top 8 finalist announcement, pushed a week by the volume of submissions, lands on October 6. YGG will pull the YGG/ETH liquidity pair on Abstract Chain on October 9, and holders are directed to swap or bridge their tokens via the Abstract Native Bridge before that date. Axie: DOM’s launch event offers over $6,000 in total rewards running through October 22. The eight-streamer Twitch competition on Anichess reaches its Super Grand Final on 25 Oct.

Wash Trading Watch
Scored 0-100Wash trading is fake volume: the same trader on both sides of a deal, making a token look busier than it is. We score every gaming token 0-100 on how strongly its market data shows that pattern. A high score is a flag for further scrutiny, never proof of wrongdoing. More on wash trading
gaming tokens flagged this month for elevated wash-trading risk, with 10 at the maximum severe tier.
Flags fire on volume spikes, price/volume divergence, peer anomalies and volume-to-holder ratios. Scores are advisory, not accusations. Read the methodology

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the JRPG Gaming Index?
The JRPG Gaming Index (GTI-20) is a proprietary, market-cap-weighted benchmark of the top 20 crypto and web3 gaming tokens by market cap, drawn from a broader universe of 474 tokens we track across the sector, an S&P 500 for blockchain gaming. For this report month it closed at 12.24, up 13.95% month-over-month.
How is wash trading detected?
We score each gaming token from 0 to 100 on wash-trading risk, using on-chain and market-microstructure signals: abnormal volume spikes, price/volume divergence, and volume-to-holder ratios. Each token lands in one of four buckets: minimal, some, many, or severe. This month we flagged 43 tokens. The scores are advisory, not accusations of fraud.
How is funding tracked?
JRPG captures the full spectrum of capital entering crypto gaming (venture rounds, grants, airdrops, and tournament prizes), from venture rounds down to the smallest community pools: no minimum threshold, not just headline VC deals. Each event is verified, valued in USD, and given a confidence rating. This month logged $95,571.81 across 45 events.
