Pixel Heroes Adventure Shuts Down After Four Years of Blockbuster Battles
After four years of pixelated adventures and block-tastic battles, Studio Z5 has decided to pull the plug on their blockchain MMORPG, Pixel Heroes Adventure. The studio, which was founded in South Korea back in 2020, laid off its entire team as part of a shutdown that leaves players in the lurch.
A Brief History
Remember when Pixel Heroes Adventure, formerly known as Meta Toy City, was all the rage? It was supposed to be the next big thing in blockchain gaming — a pixel art MMORPG with play-to-earn mechanics and dual-token economics that promised riches beyond imagination. But now it’s just another casualty of the crypto winter.
For those who joined after the hype cycle, here’s a crash course: Pixel Heroes Adventure was all about exploring an open-world, battling bosses, and raiding colosseums to earn in-game resources like Diamonds or tokens such as $ADVTR and MGOLD. The game even had its own NFTs, with collectible characters known as Primal HeroZ.
The Good Old Days
Back when Pixel Heroes Adventure was new, it offered a unique twist on the hack-and-slash genre, promising blockchain-native ownership and an engaging mix of RPG elements. The community rallied around its promise to bring something fresh to the play-to-earn space, with players getting excited about the idea of earning real money just by playing their favorite game.
