Axie Infinity price, server status, and 20,000 bAXS awarded to game builders in the Vibeathon. Also, an Axie Core move.
On September 1, Axie Infinity’s team announced the Axie Vibeathon. The Vibeathon is a challenge to build a playable Axie game using AI tools. There’s a 20,000 bAXS prize pool. Winning ideas could become part of the Axie ecosystem or standalone games [1]. The launch comes after a period of ecosystem changes. The studio had already announced a switch of Classic rewards from AXS to bAXS. The studio also planned an Atia’s Legacy playtest [2][3]. The Vibeathon puts the spotlight on community-created Axie games, with registration open until September 7.

Axie Infinity has a stylized 2D illustration look. I think the game feels like a polished digital cartoon, similar to the clean card art and board-game presentation in *Hearthstone*. Those round little Axie creatures have oversized eyes and goofy faces, plopped into a coliseum arena draped with hanging banners. The game lands right in that playful, whimsical space where nothing takes itself too seriously. It’s a confident, cheerful art direction that makes even a battle arena feel like a playground.
Oversized eyes make Axie creatures purely charming.

Despite all the love for the cute Axies and cool graphics, things aren’t so pretty once you dive deeper into the game [4]. Constant bugs like update loops, crashes, and broken cards ruin matches [4], and others complain that the developers ignore feedback instead of fixing balance [4]. The community is split-some love the challenge and time-killing fun, while others find it boring or unfairly hard [4].
Our shill detection shows that several 5-star reviews contain vague hype language without specific gameplay details, and one empty future-dated review, suggesting possible shilling. [5]
… shut up community to hide their unwillingness to listen … [4]

Axie Infinity’s token has been struggling for months, falling behind its gaming peers. The announcement briefly sparked a rally, but it couldn’t sustain the price quickly gave back those gains, leaving it even lower than before.

Those numbers set the scene for what the Axie Infinity team just shared. The Axie Vibeathon is a two-round online event where each builder creates their own functional Axie game centered on Axie Core. Builders enter as individuals, host the game wherever they like, and submit the link. No programming experience needed, which sounds sus it’s a low bar that’s likely to produce half-baked entries rather than anything polished. [6]
The schedule moves fast. Registration opened Sept 1 and closes Sept 7, then Round 1 runs Sept 8 through 21 with a interactive prototype and the full vision. Finalists get announced on Sept 29. [7] Axie Infinity: Origins’ YouTube channel views are up by about 15,076 over the past month, to 4,963,112. The game has 100K+ Google Play installs.
There’s a 20,000 bAXS prize pool split across winners, finalists, and prototypes. Plus, up to eight Round 2 finalists each get 250 USDC in AI-tool support. Successful ideas have a shot at becoming official parts of Axie’s world or standalone games. That’s basically the fan-project-becomes-real dream. [8] But given the team’s track record of ignoring community feedback, it’s hard to take this as anything more than a cheap way to outsource development.
Round 1 gets judged on Axie Core fit (35%), gameplay (25%), product vision (20%), feasibility (10%), and prototype/documentation quality (10%). Three independent judges review each entry.[9] There’s also a Resources page with a Get Started guide, Builder Resource Kit, Axie assets, and engine guides, plus help in the Axie Discord.[10]
The team calls this the first iteration of the Vibeathon, starting with the Lunacian community to get the tools and format right. In the contest, a fan idea can become an official game but with the current state of the ecosystem, that feels more like a PR move than a genuine opportunity.
