Brave Frontier Versus shut down June 22, 2026. Here's the gem-refund process (open until Aug 24), the full franchise status, and what's next.
Brave Frontier Versus shut down on June 22, 2026, at 3:00 PM JST, less than a year after its global launch [1]. If you are checking on the state of the Brave Frontier series in 2026, here is where things stand: the mainline games closed back in 2022 [5], and this card-battler spin-off is the latest title to go dark. gumi stopped selling Gems on April 22, 2026, and opened a refund window for unused paid Gems on June 23 [2]. If you spent real money on the game, that window is still open. The section below covers how to claim your refund.

Brave Frontier Versus launched worldwide in October 2025 as a trading card game set in the original Brave Frontier universe [3]. Rather than summoning units in an RPG, you built decks of character cards, Manifestation Cards, and Brave Bursts, then played five-turn PvP matches on iOS and Android [3]. gumi also gave it a Web3 layer: the game ran on the Sui blockchain through the studio’s OSHI3 platform, which moved card ownership and trading on-chain [4].
Gems were the paid currency. You bought them with real money to pull rare cards and power up a deck. gumi halted Gem sales on April 22, 2026, at 3:00 PM JST, the same day it announced the closure [1]. From that point, the Gems you had already paid for became the subject of the refund process.

Only Gems you bought with real money qualify. gumi’s notice calls them Paid Gems and refunds them at 2 JPY (tax included) per Gem [2]. Free Gems earned through in-game rewards do not count. You file the request through the official refund portal, refund.gu3.jp/bfvsww for players outside Japan and refund.gu3.jp/bfvs inside Japan, and you provide four details: your username, your support ID, your registered email, and a PayPal account for the payment [2]. Both your username and support ID show on the game’s title screen.
One detail trips people up: do not uninstall the app until your refund clears. Once the app is gone, you cannot pull up the username and support ID needed to verify you, and the request stalls. Replies can take ten days or more, so file with time to spare [2].

gC Games Inc. developed Brave Frontier Versus, and gumi Inc. published it [3]. gC Games is a gumi subsidiary, so both names belong on the record. Earlier reports that credited GungHo Online Entertainment mixed the game up with an unrelated studio.
The wider franchise started with A-Lim, which built the original 2013 Brave Frontier RPG that gumi published worldwide. That first game ran for about nine years before its global service closed on April 27, 2022 [5]. A Japan-only sequel, Brave Frontier 2, and the global spin-off Brave Frontier: The Last Summoner wound down in the same period [5]. Players who ask what happened to Brave Frontier get a short answer: the classic titles closed in 2022, and Versus was gumi’s 2025 attempt to revive the brand.

Reaction split along familiar lines. Longtime fans liked seeing Brave Frontier characters and art return in card form. Others felt a five-turn duel never matched the depth of the original RPG, and a shutdown inside a year did little to change their minds [6]. The Web3 build raised a question the classic games never faced: what happens to on-chain cards and their value once gumi takes the servers offline? The refund covers paid Gems, not whatever market value players had assigned to the cards themselves.

Brave Frontier Versus lasted roughly eight months, a short run even by mobile standards. If you still have the app and paid for Gems, one task is left: pull your username and support ID from the title screen, keep the app installed, and file the refund before the window closes. For the franchise as a whole, 2026 leaves it dormant again, with the classic games long gone and no active Brave Frontier title on the market.
If you want another on-chain card game to move to, Legends of Elysium and Parallel TCG are both still live.

gumi has floated a return for the brand, with reports pointing to a new mobile project around 2027 [7]. Nothing is confirmed, and after several closures in four years, treat revival talk with caution until gumi commits to a date. We will update this page as the refund window closes and if the studio announces its next Brave Frontier game.
