Decentraland DAO Votes to Reclaim $1.7M Committee Funds

The Decentraland DAO voted to reclaim over $1.7 million stuck in old DAO Committee wallets, and the wallets finally have new signers.

The Decentraland DAO just voted to pull more than $1.7 million out of two old DAO Committee multisig wallets and send it back to the DAO Treasury. The proposal went up on September 28, 2026, and closed on October 3 with 80% of the voting power behind it [1]. That money had been stuck for about a year, so this is a big deal for how Decentraland runs itself. The team also brought Decentraland to Android and iOS earlier this year [2][3][4]. Honestly, a DAO chasing down its own wallets is not something you see every day.

Art Direction

Wallet drama aside, Decentraland’s art direction uses a low-poly 3D aesthetic with smooth shading, giving it a clean and geometric look. The blocky avatars with simplified features stand out while the bright glowing neon accents on buildings add a vibrant touch. The mood is playful and lively, fitting the game’s social and interactive nature.

Mixed Player Feedback

Despite all the hype about Decentraland’s cool art and hangout spots [5], players note app performance issues and crashes. These happen especially on mobile, which can be frustrating [5]. Reviewers say opinions split on the mobile app. Some say it’s better than desktop. Others complain about text readability and freezing [6].

Our shill detection shows that several short, vague, and repetitive 5-star reviews suggest potential shilling activities. [7]

Decentraland’s MANA token climbed while the Decentraland DAO vote was underway, and over the past three months it has done better than most other gaming tokens. It dipped a little on the last day, though. Token prices move for lots of reasons, and nothing here shows the vote caused the jump.

Decentraland DAO Votes to Reclaim the Committee Wallets

While MANA was having its moment, the bigger story was inside the Decentraland DAO itself. Back in October 2025, the DAO voted to shut down its old DAO Committee and give its job to a new 3-of-5 multisig run by people from the DAO Council, the Security Advisory Board, the Decentraland Foundation and a security specialist [8]. The catch was that the Committee’s two old wallets, one on Ethereum and one on Polygon, still held more than $1.7 million, and only the three former signers, Rizk, HPrivakos and Tobik, could move it [1]. That’s like a club breaking up while two ex-officers keep the keys to the cash box.

Things got messy. In its January 2026 status update, Regenesis Labs said it had sent legal notices to HPrivakos and Rizk over DAO assets still sitting outside the treasury and marketplace fees that should have gone to the DAO [9]. So on September 28, a community member asked the three former signers to empty both wallets into the DAO Treasury and bridge the Polygon balances over to Ethereum. The vote passed on October 3 with 1,617,930 VP from 11 voters, while a single voter said no with 396,648 VP [1].

Then came the breakthrough. On October 5, Tobik posted that he had started the handover a year ago, but his “two former colleagues decided to troll the process, ignore the decision, and retain control.” The wallet needed two signatures, so he couldn’t move it alone. Now one of them has finally signed, with help from Regenesis Labs and the Decentraland Foundation, and the wallets have new signers [10]. Commenter 3Point1Four, who had warned that the ex-Committee custodians refused to return the funds, thanked Tobik for the update [1]. One thing to keep straight: the new team controls the wallets now, but nobody has confirmed the money has landed in the DAO Treasury yet.

Decentraland continues to maintain a presence with over 50K Google Play installs, indicating sustained interest in the platform despite recent fluctuations in social media followers.

How the Decentraland DAO Works

Decentraland describes itself as a virtual world where the parcels, scenes, avatars and experiences are built and owned by the people who show up, on infrastructure no single company can take away [11]. The Decentraland DAO is how holders of MANA, LAND and NAMEs steer it. Votes happen off-chain on Snapshot, which keeps them free, and a multisig wallet then carries out whatever passed, with a 24-hour delay so the Security Advisory Board can step in if something looks wrong. The DAO also decides on grants, name bans, points of interest, Catalyst nodes and wearable curation [12], which is why control of that multisig matters so much.
