Month in Review

The month's biggest developments, written up in brief before the numbers that follow.

Top Stories

Abstract Winding Down

The announcement landed on October 6 from two accounts in close succession. Igloo, Inc. said it was returning its full focus to Pudgy Penguins, Pudgy NFTs, and the PENGU token, and that winding down Abstract allowed the company to consolidate personnel and resources behind the penguin brand. Abstract’s own account followed, noting the chain had been running for almost three years. By month’s end the practical fallout was concrete: Gigaverse told its community that Abstract would go dark on December 15, and that players using the Abstract Global Wallet had until November 15 to connect a non-AGW wallet and carry their account and items over. NFTs sitting on Abstract, including ROMs, would migrate through a separate process, and Gigaverse limited each account to a single wallet going forward.

Cashbox Refund and Hibernation

Cashbox told its player base on October 13 that it was entering a one-month refund and transition period running through November 12, during which all players could process refunds. The studio cited current market conditions and long-term planning as the reasons, and said the project’s Four Ancient Civilizations would enter hibernation on November 13 with core gameplay suspended. The refund window through November 12 was the last live interaction players would have with the product before the hibernation date took effect.

Ronin Waypoint Sunset

Axie Infinity gave its community a five-day warning on October 26 that Ronin Waypoint was closing. An earlier reminder, posted on October 14, had instructed players to move their badges and bAXS tokens out of Waypoint wallets before the October 16 transition date, warning that assets left behind after that date would be permanently lost. Waypoint was the intermediate wallet layer between Axie players and the broader Ronin chain, and its removal folded that step into what the company described as Ronin Stash. The sunset ran on a tight timeline: five days’ notice, a hard cutoff, and no extension indicated.

Katana Inu Public Launch

Katana Inu had been building through a bear market for five years, and on October 22 the wait ended with its first public title, Katana Inu: Samurai Task Force, going live in Steam early access alongside a web3 launcher. The game is a free-to-play idle battler where players build squads, fight bosses, and earn KATA tokens. The team committed the first $1,000 of game income to a token burn and set aside 10% of ongoing profits for buyback and burn. Token holders receive discounts on in-game purchases, free airdrops, and access to seasonal leaderboard prize pools. The project framed this as the first of ten games it plans to ship, and it had already announced a follow-up offering 1v1 and 3v3 cash-prize matches with $50 or $100 rewards.

What to watch

November opens with a tight cluster of dated milestones. Blast Wheels is targeting an iOS and Android launch on November 2, expanding its Web3 racing title into a free-to-play mobile game with in-app purchases through App Store and Google Play, alongside a plan to allocate a portion of settled revenue toward $WHEELS buybacks and liquidity. BBG is set to launch on November 4, and the project’s launch post references existing BBR skins and accounts. The Seven Deadly Sins NFT Adventure service shuts down on November 11, 2026 at 11:00 (UTC+9). Cashbox’s refund and transition window closes on Nov 12, 2026, and the Four Ancient Civilizations enter hibernation with core gameplay suspended on Nov 13, 2026.

Wash Trading Watch

Scored 0-100

Wash trading is fake volume: the same trader on both sides of a deal, making a token look busier than it is. We score every gaming token 0-100 on how strongly its market data shows that pattern. A high score is a flag for further scrutiny, never proof of wrongdoing. More on wash trading

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the JRPG Gaming Index?

The JRPG Gaming Index (GTI-20) is a proprietary, market-cap-weighted benchmark of the top 20 crypto and web3 gaming tokens by market cap, drawn from a broader universe of 459 tokens we track across the sector, an S&P 500 for blockchain gaming. For this report month it closed at 12.10, down 1.14% month-over-month.

How is wash trading detected?

We score each gaming token from 0 to 100 on wash-trading risk, using on-chain and market-microstructure signals: abnormal volume spikes, price/volume divergence, and volume-to-holder ratios. Each token lands in one of four buckets: minimal, some, many, or severe. This month we flagged 25 tokens. The scores are advisory, not accusations of fraud.

How is funding tracked?

JRPG captures the full spectrum of capital entering crypto gaming (venture rounds, grants, airdrops, and tournament prizes), from venture rounds down to the smallest community pools: no minimum threshold, not just headline VC deals. Each event is verified, valued in USD, and given a confidence rating. This month logged $192,530.86 across 45 events.

Can I cite or republish this report?

Yes. The JRPG Crypto Games Report is free to cite and republish with attribution to the "JRPG Crypto Games Report" and a link back to the original report URL. A ready-to-paste citation is provided in the Methodology & Cite section.
