Axie Infinity Classic: Axies Now Level Up and Evolve, but Does It Count?

Axie Infinity's new animated short shows axies earning AXP, leveling up and evolving body parts. Here's what it shows and what it means for Axie Infinity Classic.

On November 3, 2026, Axie Infinity’s official X account made an announcement. Axies can earn experience points (AXP), level up, and evolve their body parts through play in Axie games [1]. The post described the feature as letting each axie grow alongside its owner with every adventure. In late March, the studio said Playtest 2 of Atia’s Legacy would shift combat to controlling a single axie. It would also add new weapons, bosses, and an Extraction Dungeon mode [2]. A day later, it said a new Axie game was in development, pointing to more games and experiments [3]. The latest post shifts the focus from new projects to progression for the axies themselves. The post came with a short animated film, but it does not name which Axie game the system covers, so Axie Infinity Classic players can’t tell yet whether their battles count.

Art Style and Direction

Here’s a look at the art direction in Axie Infinity. The art features a cartoon style, viewed from above, with a vibrant aesthetic reminiscent of Slime Rancher. Adorable creatures with oversized, cheerful faces inhabit lively, stylized environments, creating an immersive experience. The mood is consistently playful and upbeat throughout. Overall, the art direction is polished and definitely enjoyable.

Huge-faced creatures roam bright, top-down worlds bursting with cartoon charm.

Mixed Player Reception

Having covered the polished, enjoyable art direction, here’s the scoop on what players think. There seems to be some real affection for the strategic battles and character design, with one fan being totally hooked since 2021 [4]. However, not everyone is vibing. Complaints seem to stack up quickly! Players report recurring bugs after every update, which can be frustrating, coupled with stuck loading screens [4]. Reviewers note a divided response: some label the game as dull or lifeless, while others say finding the adventure mode is tricky and earnings have dipped [4].

In my opinion, most reviews reflect genuine bug reports and concerns. A small number of overly enthusiastic 5-star reviews, however, feel more promotional than authentic, lacking gameplay detail. [5]

Having looked at player praise that lacks gameplay detail, here’s the current state of the AXS token. Axie Infinity’s token, AXS, has been underperforming lately, especially while other gaming tokens have seen more movement. Around the time of the announcement, its performance remained stagnant. It has struggled to keep up with the rising trends in the gaming sector, consistently lagging behind its peers.

Bing’s Horn Evolves: What It Means for Axie Infinity Classic

So that’s where the token stands. Now for the post itself, which came with a roughly two-and-a-half-minute animated short instead of patch notes [1]. A girl in a wide straw hat and Bing, her round white axie with a cone-shaped horn, trek through a forest to a cave where a lost temple is supposed to be. Nothing’s there at first, until the little flame she carries lights up carvings on the wall. She explains that the fiery Helios people built secret temples all over Lunacia, and each one holds a flame from the god Atia. Inside, the pair reach a giant statue of Atia sitting on a lotus. The girl lifts up three tiny axie spirits, one blue, one orange and one white, and says, “Let Atia’s warmth guide you to your new life!” They melt into light, and she cheers that the spirits are free. Then Bing’s horn glows like a candle, burns away, and pops back as a round red horn with yellow eyes and a toothy grin. “It evolved!” That spirit scene isn’t random, either. When Sky Mavis first pitched part upgrades in 2023, it said the materials would mostly come from releasing axies [6]. The clip still skips the practical stuff, though: no patch number, no release date, and no named game.

The replies are all over the place. One commenter joked about 3D printing their axie because theirs has grown so much [7]. Another wants more incentive, asking for a boost to AXP earnings and reasons to burn mementos [8]. One user even labeled the post a scam [9], while another excitedly exclaimed, “wait, this is cool asf” [10]. A bunch of people chimed in with “niceee” [11].

Some are totally loving their little creatures, while others are a bit skeptical about the whole situation. The big question for Axie Infinity Classic players is whether their battles still count. Classic has paid out AXP since early 2024, when an update raised its cap to 12,500 AXP per axie per day and set Arena wins at 200 AXP [12]. But Sky Mavis said it would pause Classic’s competitive seasons and feature work once Season 16 wrapped on September 10, 2026, and pull Classic quests from the Bounty Board [13]. The new post only says “Axie games,” so nobody knows yet whether Axie Infinity Classic feeds this growth system. The post itself garnered 139 likes, 64 retweets, and 15 replies so far. However, Axie Infinity’s Discord has seen a decline of around 4,739 members in the past month, bringing the total down to about 633,825. Despite this decrease, the game still ranks first among 787 others in Discord membership.
